Операторская работа Гая Грина восхитительна в обеих картинах, а режиссер превосходно умеет смешивать в одной сцене (напр., в начале Больших надежд) планы, снятые на натуре и в декорациях. Самые впечатляющие сцены этого фильма – начальные, когда Пип и Эстелла еще дети. В обеих картинах Лин хранит верность Диккенсу в том отношении, что мир, в котором живут Пип и Оливер, показан как загадочная планета, полная сюрпризов и странностей, но вместе с тем – жестокости и страха.
